Questions about the BOM tool
Is my BOM file uploaded to TracedParts?
No. The file is read and matched entirely inside your browser. TracedParts is a static site with no application server, so there is nowhere for the file to go. What the page downloads is price data for the part numbers in your BOM, not the other way round.
Which file formats can I use?
Excel .xlsx and CSV, including tab- or semicolon-separated exports. The first sheet of an Excel workbook is read. Older .xls files need to be saved as .xlsx or CSV first. You can also paste rows straight from a spreadsheet.
How are part numbers matched?
Part numbers are compared with spaces, dashes and other punctuation removed, so LM317-T and LM317T match. Where one part number is made by more than one manufacturer, the manufacturer column decides; without it the line is flagged. Near misses, such as a part number with a packaging suffix, are offered as suggestions rather than matched silently.
How is the price for each line worked out?
For every distributor that quotes the part, the line quantity is raised to the minimum order quantity if needed and priced at the break that quantity reaches. The distributor with enough stock and the lowest extended price is shown. Figures are from the daily catalogue pull and are indicative, not a quote.
Does it flag obsolete parts?
Yes. Each line carries the part's lifecycle status from the distributor record, and obsolete and not-recommended-for-new-design parts are counted in the summary so they can be dealt with before an order is placed.
Where are saved BOMs kept?
In your browser's local storage, on this device only. They are not tied to an account and TracedParts cannot see them. Clearing site data removes them.
